Museum Presents Kenneth C. Cramer History Award: This award is presented to an eighth grade graduate of the Morris Plains Borough School. This award was established in memory of the late Mr. Cramer, who graduated from the Borough school in 1941 and Morristown High School in 1945. Mr. Cramer served in the US Navy from 1946–1948. He resumed his education and graduated from Gettysburg College and obtained a post-graduate degree from Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Cramer was the Archivist at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He was a member of the Morris Plains Museum and the Hanover, NH Historical Society. He supported the Morris Plains Museum with monetary assistance as well as donating historical memorabilia of the Borough school and the town. He also provided the museum with valuable professional advice.
Museum Awards Helen H. Schnack Scholarship: Helen H. Schnack was a loyal and generous member of the Morris Plains Museum who was committed to education as well as to the museum. We honor her by presenting a merit-based scholarship each year to a Morris Plains Borough graduate of Morristown High School. To qualify for the scholarship, students must: reside in Morris Plains, demonstrate a genuine
interest in history, achieve academic excellence (i.e., a GPA of 3.0 or higher), be involved in
extracurricular activities, and complete an essay question as part of the application process. The scholarship is awarded at the end of each school year.
Museum Increases its Visibility and Capacity: We are pleased to announce that the Morris Plains Museum has recently undergone a variety of upgrades. We now have new museum-friendly storage units, a
project workstation in our office, and a colorful, interior reception area. With the
help of a skilled team of Ramapo College students (Glen Rosenthal, Molly Stern, Courtney Lang, Jessica Feldman,
Melissa Feldman, Samantha DeAngelis, Jacob Stephens, and James Howell) and their professor (Bonnie Blake), who won the Design Derby contest sponsored by the Art Directors
Club of NJ, we now have a new logo which is featured on a striking poster and
brochure the team designed for us as well as on our new web site. All of these upgrades are intended to build a better Museum inside and out.
